What We Believe

WHAT WE BELIEVE

The church of Christ in Webberville, Michigan is committed to teaching and upholding the truth as found in the Bible.  For our work and practice, we follow the teachings of God as set forth in the New Testament record concerning the church.  While not all inclusive, the following will help the reader to understand what we believe.  If you have any questions, please contact us.

  1. We believe that for a person to go to Heaven they must be a member of the Lord’s church, where the saved are (Ephesians 5:23; Acts 2:47) (the church of Christ – Romans 16;16).
  2. We believe that for a person to be a member of the Lord’s church, they must obey God’s plan of salvation.
  3. Hear the word of God (Romans 10:17; Acts 10:33).
  4. Believe the word of God (Mark 16:16; Hebrews 11:6).
  5. Repent (change their lives) (Acts 2:38; 3:19; Luke 13:3,5).
  6. Confess the name of Christ (Romans 10:9,10; Acts 8:37).
  7. Be baptized in water by immersion (Acts 10:47; Colossians 2:12). 
    i. That sins can be remitted (Acts 2:38). 
    ii. That sins can be washed away (Acts 22:16).
    iii. To call upon the name of the Lord (Acts 22:16).
    iv. To come into Christ (Galatians 3:27).
    v. To be saved (1 Peter 3:21).
    vi.  To be added to the Lord’s church (1 Corinthians 12:13)j.
  1. After becoming a Christian, live faithfully in obedience to God (Revelation 2:10; 1 John 5:3).
  2. We believe the Bible is God’s inspired word (2 Timothy 3:16), and that there are no other books inspired of God.
  3. We believe that God exists (Hebrews 11:6), and that he will reward the righteous and punish the unrighteous (Matthew 25:46).
  4. We believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten son of God (John 3:16), and that we must walk in his footsteps (1 Peter 2:21) and keep his commandments (John 14:15).
  5. We believe that the Holy Spirit is a part of the Godhead (Genesis 1:2; Acts 5:1-5) and that the Holy Spirit has guided the inspiration of the Bible (2 Peter 1:20,21).
  6. We believe that miracles have ceased today (1 Corinthians 13:8-10), and that it is by obedience to God’s word that people are saved (1 Pet. 1:23; Romans 6:17).
  7. We believe that all of our worship must be in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).
  8. We believe that we must preach only God’s word (Mark 16:15), and avoid the foolishness of man’s “wisdom” (1 Corinthians 1:21-25).
  9. We believe that we must pray to God through Jesus Christ (Ephesians 5:20; Colossians 3:17).
  10. We believe that we must observe the Lord’s Supper on the first day of every week (1 Corinthians 11:23ff; Acts 20:7).
  11. We believe that we must sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God without the aid of mechanical instruments of music (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16).
  12. We believe we must lay by in store of our financial gain each first day of the week as God has commanded us (1 Corinthians 16:1,2).
  13. We believe that we must be separate from the world (2 Corinthians 6:17); we must not be partakers with the world (Ephesians 5:7); and, we must have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness (Ephesians 5:11).
  14. We believe that we must be set for the defense of the gospel (Philippians 1:17; Jude 3).
  15. We believe we must be ready to give an answer to every one who asks us concerning the hope that is in us (1 Peter 3:15).
  16. We believe that every person will be judged by the deeds of his or her life (Romans 2:6; 2 Corinthians 5:10).
  17. We believe that Christ will come again to judge the world (2 Timothy 4:1; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18), and that the world and the works therein will be destroyed (2 Peter 3:8-11).
  18. We believe that both Heaven and Hell are real (Matthew 25:41,46; John 14:1-3; Revelation 21,22).
